What is Cerebral Palsy?


Cerebral Palsy refers to the non progressive and non contagious condition in which brain trauma impaired with the motor skills of the children. "Cerebral" refers for brain and "palsy" refers to the lack of control on muscles movement.

The causes of cerebral palsy condition is not still determine with the improvement of latest and advance medical technologies. But according to different studies point that cerebral palsy affected after some damages in brain. In 75% case it affect child before the birth, around 5% children get affected during during delivery and 15% children get affected after birth and up to three years of their age. According to previous year USA estimation, 1:3 children diagnosed with cerebral palsy in every 1,000 births.     

The brain infection during these stages may be occur due to come infections like asphyxia ( lack of oxygen during and after birth), meningitis, head injury, multiple pregnancy,  stroke,  infantile jaundice, prematurity, low birth weight, genetic disorder problem, Rh incompatibility etc. 

Cerebral palsy are classified as major 4 types which are given as below:

1. Spastic cerebral palsy: It is one of the most common type of cerebral palsy among cerebral palsy children. 70% to 80% children affected with spastic cerebral palsy condition.  It make muscles tight and stiff.
2. Athetoid or Dyskinetic cerebral palsy:  12% to 15% cerebral palsy children affected with athetoid or dyskinetic cerebral palsy condition. In this cases mostly seen child unable to make their body balance properly.
3. Ataxic cerebral palsy: 8 to 5% cerebral palsy children affected with Ataxic cerebral palsy problem. 

Cerebral Palsy Symptoms

Mostly cerebral palsy symptoms includes bone structure deformity, delay in proper growth in muscles, seizures, stiffness in muscles, movement abnormalities,  problem in motor skills, retardation and many more symptoms seen in cerebral palsy children. These are some common causes of cerebral palsy disorder. The cerebral palsy diagnosis is not possible easily it takes time for proper diagnosis of CP condition. Cerebral palsy condition have nor proper cure available at movement of diagnosis. But there are some cerebral palsy treatment, cerebral palsy surgeries and cerebral palsy therapies are available which help to provide better management in the condition of cerebral palsy children. Physical CP therapy, Occupational CP therapy and speech language CP therapy are common therapies which provided by cerebral palsy specialist for cerebral palsy children.
