Cerebral Palsy Symptoms in Children

The symptoms of cerebral palsy are varying child to child depending on the injuries. This condition occurs due to some damages in the brain which control the motor function of the body.  It mostly occurs during, before after the period of birth. Its symptoms are not easy to find at the time of birth it takes 2 to 3 months. This is a permanent condition that restricts the normal development growth of the child and their posture. These symptoms have a wide range of problem with child fine motor skills for example writing, walking, crawling, standing etc.

In every cerebral palsy case, specialist always finds a problem in skeletal and muscular development. Those babies born with a severe cerebral palsy condition they do not have normal postures. This condition certain of body either moveable or not, it depending upon the condition of severity. Some symptoms may change as the grow in their age. In some babies, these symptoms can't show immediately and takes 9 months to 1 years to show complete signs and symptoms of cerebral palsy.

Other cerebral palsy symptoms may include epilepsy and communication as well as the speech disorder. Sensory impairments, Eating disorders, mental retardation and behavioral disorders are additional symptoms of cerebral palsy. A person who is usually slurred sound affected has very frustrating symptom of CP. Another common symptom is uncontrollable trembling of the limbs on one side of the body is know as the hemiparetic tremors. It is very serious impairment of movement. In this cerebral palsy condition, muscles will become rigid and can not stretch well. It usually affects the arms. Another common symptom is difficulty swallowing. People with cerebral palsy, to control the problems about the movements of his tongue and mouth have problems eating.

Mostly cerebral palsy signs and symptoms are not detectable, sometimes until the child reaches a certain age. So, we need to wait for those symptoms and better diagnosis of cerebral palsy children.

Quadriplegic spastic cerebral palsy

spastic cerebral palsy
Quadriplegia is a type of a cerebral palsy in which all the four limbs gets affected. Just like other types of cerebral palsy, Quadriplegia is recognized by stiff contracted muscles. However, the level of severity will defer from child to child. Those children suffering with moderate quadriplegia will be able to walk by themselves, sit and perform other similar tasks, while the children with more severe cases will face difficulties in various aspects of day to day life.

The major cause of Quadriplegia Cerebral Palsy is a spinal cord injury, but certain other conditions can also cause a similar paralysis like Cerebral palsy and strokes. The Amount of Impairment resulting from Spinal Cord Injury shows the Part affected and the Damage happened to the Spinal Cord.

Being the Central Parts of the Nervous System any injury to Brain and Spinal Cord can be damaging. Movement and Sensation gets weakened when the Spinal Cord is Injured as the Brain fail to properly Communicate with the Spinal Cord. The Spinal Cord is the Nervous System inclosed in the vertebrae and discs which make up the Spine.

Spastic Cerebral Palsy:
The pyramidal tract is responsible for voluntary movements that consists of two groups of nerve fibers. They fall from the cortex into the brain stem. They are responsible for communicating the brain’s movement to the nerves located in the spinal cord that will prompt the event. Pyramidal Spastic Cerebral Palsy would indicate that the tract is injured or not functioning properly. Pyramidal Cerebral Palsy indicates the injury is outside the path in areas like cerebellum, basal ganglia, and thalamus,. Pyramidal and is a key Factor to movement impairments. Spasticity implicit increased muscle tone. Muscles will continually contract, making the limbs stiff, resistant, and rigid to relaxing or flexing . Reflexes can be overstress, while movements tend to be awkward and jerky. Often, the legs and arms are affected. The pharynx, tongue, and mouth, can be affected, as well, impairing breathing, speech, eating, and swallowing.

Spastic Cerebral Palsy is mostly hypertonic and accounts about 70 to 80 percent of Cerebral Palsy cases. The injury to brain is referred to as upper motor neuron and where the damage occurs in the pyramidal tract.
The stress on the body that is created by spasticity can result in associated conditions like as limb deformities, hip dislocation, and scoliosis,. One major concern is the constantly contracting of muscles that leads to joint deformities.

Spastic Cerebral Palsy is often named with a topographical method that describes which parts are affected, such as spastic quadriplegia, spastic Diplegia, and spastic Hemiparesis.

Non-Spastic Cerebral Palsy:
A couple of styles of non-spastic Cerebral Palsy are every characterized by using particular impairments; one of the principal traits of non-spastic Cerebral Palsy is involuntary motion. Movement can be gradual or rapid, frequently repetitive, and on occasion rhythmic. Planned moves can exaggerate the effect – a situation referred to as arm tremors. Stress can worsen the involuntary actions, while regularly removes them.
An injury in the brain outside the pyramidal tract causes non-spastic Cerebral Palsy. Due to location of injury mental impairment, and seizures are likely less. Non-spastic CP lowers down the likelihood of limb and joint deformities. The ability to speak may be detached as a result of impairment.
Non-spastic Cerebral Palsy is divided into two very groups, dyskinetic and ataxic. Together they make 20 percent of Cerebral Palsy cases. Dyskinetic makes up 15 percent of all Cerebral Palsy cases, and ataxic comprises 5 percent only.

Spastic Cerebral Palsy VS Non-Spastic Cerebral Palsy

Spastic Cerebral Palsy:
The pyramidal tract consists of two groups of nerve fibers responsible for voluntary movements. They descend from the cortex into the brain stem. In essence, they are responsible for communicating the brain’s movement intent to the nerves in the spinal cord that will stimulate the event. Pyramidal Spastic Cerebral Palsy would indicate that the pyramidal tract is damaged or not functioning properly.Extrapyramidal Cerebral Palsy indicates the injury is outside the tract in areas such as the basal ganglia, thalamus, and cerebellum. Pyramidal and extrapyramidal are key components to movement impairments.

Non-Spastic Cerebral Palsy:
Non-spastic Cerebral Palsy is decreased and/or fluctuating muscle tone. Multiple forms of non-spastic Cerebral Palsy are each characterized by particular impairments; one of the main characteristics of non-spastic Cerebral Palsy is involuntary movement. Movement can be slow or fast, often repetitive, and sometimes rhythmic. Planned movements can exaggerate the effect – a condition known as intention tremors. Stress can also worsen the involuntary movements, whereas sleeping often eliminates them.

Causes of quadriplegia spastic cerebral palsy

The major cause of Quadriplegia Cerebral Palsy is a spinal cord injury, but several other conditions like Cerebral palsy and strokes can Also cause a similar paralysis. The Part affected and the Damage happened to the Spinal Cord Shows the Amount of Impairment resulting from Spinal Cord Injury.

Being the Central Parts of the Nervous System, injury to Spinal Cord and Brain can be Devastating. Sensation and Movement gets Impaired when the Spinal Cord is Injured as the Brain cannot properly Communicate with the Spinal Cord. The Spinal Cord is the Nervous System inclosed in the vertebrae and discs which make up the Spine.

Cerebral palsy symptoms, signs and cerebral palsy treatment

Cerebral palsy symptoms varies from patient to patient. This condition occur due to some changes or damages in brain that control motor functions of body. It may occur during pregnancy, before birth or after birth of child. It is non progressive permanent condition that restricts control of normal posture and movements.

There are many cerebral palsy symptoms which create problems in motor functions and some problem are more serious for person or children that they can not able to walk and stand without taking some else help. In most of the cases cerebral palsy problem affect skeletal and muscular development. There are often skeletal deformities that make normal movement impossible. It is mostly involves spasms, loss of balance control, movements control, facial gestures controls and many other problems.

Toe walking and  Scissor walking are common cerebral palsy symptoms. These issues with motor function can be mild or more severe. Some individuals with this condition can still function and get around, while others are rendered helpless. Depending on the location of the damage to the brain, there are some individuals with cerebral palsy that are affected by only one side of the body. If the brain's right side is damaged, then this result in the left side of the body having limited freely movement issues.

Newborns with severe cerebral palsy has no normal attitude. You can be excessively movable or immovable property in certain parts of the body. Depends on the severity of the disease. The symptoms can change, if a child is older. Some babies show any symptoms immediately. For those who are not, the symptoms usually immediately show characters from nine months.

Other symptoms may include epilepsy and other communication disorders. Some symptoms may be eating disorders, sensory impairments, mental retardation and behavioral disorders sometimes. A person that the speech will sound affected usually dragged. This is one of many of the symptoms of this condition frustrating.

Another common symptom is uncontrollable tremors of the limbs on one side of the body. This is called hemiparetic tremors. If it's too hard, which can shake severely penalize the movement. With cerebral palsy, very dense muscles to stretch its and it's not good. Muscles can actually attract more disease progression over time. Is usually the arms. Another common cerebral palsy sign is difficulty in swallowing. People with cerebral palsy, to control the problems about the movements of his tongue and mouth have problems eating and drinking. You also have a tendency to drool.

Symptoms of cerebral palsy are undetectable, sometimes until the child reaches a certain age. The common symptoms include mental retardation, impaired vision, uncontrollable seizures and motor mouth and tongue problems. This is a terrible condition, has no cure. Not much is known about the cause, but there are a few medications available to individuals, to manage the involuntary movements.

Trishla Foundation is one of the best cerebral palsy diagnosis, therapy  and cerebral palsy surgery treatment center in India. Dr. Jitendra kumar jain is one of the most popular orthopedic surgeon and cerebral palsy specialist in India. There are lots of cerebral palsy affected children parents comes every year for better cerebral palsy treatment and CP management from  different countries like different states from India, Nepal, Burma, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Oman, Malaysia, Sri Lanka,  Tajikistan, Jordan, etc.

What is Cerebral Palsy?

Cerebral Palsy refers to the non progressive and non contagious condition in which brain trauma impaired with the motor skills of the children. "Cerebral" refers for brain and "palsy" refers to the lack of control on muscles movement.

The causes of cerebral palsy condition is not still determine with the improvement of latest and advance medical technologies. But according to different studies point that cerebral palsy affected after some damages in brain. In 75% case it affect child before the birth, around 5% children get affected during during delivery and 15% children get affected after birth and up to three years of their age. According to previous year USA estimation, 1:3 children diagnosed with cerebral palsy in every 1,000 births.

The brain infection during these stages may be occur due to come infections like asphyxia ( lack of oxygen during and after birth), meningitis, head injury, multiple pregnancy,  stroke,  infantile jaundice, prematurity, low birth weight, genetic disorder problem, Rh incompatibility etc.

Cerebral palsy are classified as major 4 types which are given as below:

1. Spastic cerebral palsy: It is one of the most common type of cerebral palsy among cerebral palsy children. 70% to 80% children affected with spastic cerebral palsy condition.  It make muscles tight and stiff.
2. Athetoid or Dyskinetic cerebral palsy:  12% to 15% cerebral palsy children affected with athetoid or dyskinetic cerebral palsy condition. In this cases mostly seen child unable to make their body balance properly.
3. Ataxic cerebral palsy: 8 to 5% cerebral palsy children affected with Ataxic cerebral palsy problem.

Cerebral Palsy Symptoms

Mostly cerebral palsy symptoms includes bone structure deformity, delay in proper growth in muscles, seizures, stiffness in muscles, movement abnormalities,  problem in motor skills, retardation and many more symptoms seen in cerebral palsy children. These are some common causes of cerebral palsy disorder. The cerebral palsy diagnosis is not possible easily it takes time for proper diagnosis of CP condition. Cerebral palsy condition have nor proper cure available at movement of diagnosis. But there are some cerebral palsy treatment, cerebral palsy surgeries and cerebral palsy therapies are available which help to provide better management in the condition of cerebral palsy children. Physical CP therapy, Occupational CP therapy and speech language CP therapy are common therapies which provided by cerebral palsy specialist for cerebral palsy children.
